OK, so just so you know I'm not just shitting on a critically acclaimed epic film because it's critically acclaimed and epic. I happen to love a lot of high grossing blockbuster hits. And furthermore this movie is worth your time, Heath Ledger's ingenious portrayal of The Joker is reason enough to see it. And it's not because it's so ridiculously far-fetched either, I've come to accept that pretty much any movie based on a comic book superhero necessitates the psychological suspension of reality by the audience. This film is entertaining, funny, sophisticated and of course has mind-blowing special effects and stunts. So what's wrong with it then? Well I'll tell you. The plot is complicated enough without introducing a second villain halfway through. It becomes much more difficult to process. Also, there's just too many important characters played by A-List actors with too many lines, it waters down the plot to have so many individual agendas. It just becomes too hard to connect to the most important characters in the film and difficult to keep track of what's going on. Overall I just think all the different things going on, though very well presented, didn't come together into a nice, tight, cohesive story. And the end was simply ridiculous. Movies nowadays have several endings shot and let the test audiences choose the best one. Boy are test audiences stupid if this is what they chose. I won't blow it for anyone reading who hasn't seen it yet, but I'll just give you this quote by Batman from the final scenes which pretty much says it all: "Sometimes truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more." More than truth? What the fuck is more important than truth? Who the fuck wrote this script? Machiavelli? Stalin? Dick Cheney? I can't think of a more absurd ending for this kind of movie than for the superhero to willingly become a martyr for bullshit because he believes the people are better off being lied to. Oh man I just want to punch batman in the face now! Knock some fucking sense in to him! Of course, I suppose it does make sense in a way, I mean, Bruce Wayne is a rich motherfucker, and all rich motherfuckers think people need to be bullshitted for their own good. It's the only way for the greedy to justify the burdens they heap on the backs of the miserable poor so they can continue to have vast power and luxury. I say fuck Batman if "let them eat bullshit for their own good" is his philosophy. How fitting that he becomes a villain in the eyes of the people! "Truth" be told, like all greedy rich motherfuckers he always was one! I might have even gone a bit easier on this movie if the ending wasn't so unbelievably stupid.
