This movie is damn funny, not for it's script but for it's entire premise. In the future, human beings are so incapable of controlling their urge to consume useless shit that they bury themselves in trash and make the Earth toxic and uninhabitable. So what is their solution? Go on a cruise of course! Rather than deal with their mess they build a giant space cruise boat, a slackers paradise where one need only lay on a mobile, floating chair, consume junk food (all in liquid form to avoid the labor of chewing,) cruise shopping malls and be constantly entertained by an automated tv/internet system right in your face. Even funnier is that over several centuries it becomes such an extreme that the human race devolves into something resembling a manatee. Is that our version of paradise? Nothing to do but float around watching the tube and farming ass? I just about laughed myself to death, and the best part is that this is a kid's movie! It's the only G-rated black comedy I know of!! Hats off to Pixar for beating Idiocracy for the title of funniest dystopian future movie ever made. Now I have to say at least one bad thing about this film or I just wouldn't be true to myself as a bile-spewing misanthrope. There was just too much love story crap between the two main characters. I mean, we get it! They're in love! It's just not necessary to force-feed us this schmaltz-covered mush. And though quite impressive as usual, there was a little too much showing off with the futuristic technology animation. I got bored with that stuff quick. But all in all, hilarious movie. I have to hand it to anyone that can get disney to produce a children's movie with an utterly loathsome view of humanity. I think it means we're making progress! But they should have added one more final scene, where in the next thousand years the world fills with people again, and then inevitably becomes too polluted to live on again and they have to go back on the cruise of the space manatees. Now that would have been the perfect ending!
